About Ben Dye
With over 25 year in the commercial diving industry, I bring an extensive knowledge of welding and mechanical design to my complex, multi layered projects. Among the acquired skills are: Crane operation and repair, technical welding both on the surface and underwater, installation proficiencies, core drilling, epoxies, diamond wire sawing, assessing structural limits, commercial work safety requirements, surface coatings (underwater) and a refusal to accept the statement “ It can’t be done”.
As a member of the local community, I would like my work to inspire others to explore the arts on a more personal level. Among the many challenges I face, I have chosen to use recycled metals as base material. I seek out colored tanks or cars and maintain the original finish throughout the process. I believe I can compete with design and quality, with the added benefit of a built-in story that follows all re-purposed items.
For the last 6 years, my focus has been gallery shows and exposure through large-scale public works. My work is personal. It is a daily test I ask and answer with the completion of each work. As the work is completed it evokes new goals and directions. As a result, I have been awarded locations in Lake Oswego, Milwaukie Oregon, Oregon City, Estacada, Happy Valley, West Linn, Longview Washington and twice in Wilsonville.
